John Cleese on Creativity

And now for something completely different…

John Cleese!  He is one of the funniest Cambridge graduates EVER (lawyer who majored in Latin).  He is one of those people who make us all feel like underachievers.

Anyhoo, here is his presentation about creativity.  It’s brilliant.  It’s applicable to almost every situation you’ll ever find yourself in – work, home, work, work, school, research, work, medicine.  I especially love when he references Sir Alexander Fleming as the inventor of the lightbulb joke.

One of my mentors told me years ago: you know you’ve done a good job in Case Taking when the patient cries at the first interview.  My approach is slightly different  – I know I’ve done a good job in Case Taking when the patient laughs.  I think Mr. Cleese would agree.

Please watch the video for the full 40 minutes.  The punch line is at the end.
